Director of Quality Engineering
Define the future of quality in AI-led engineering. Lead global teams, set the standards for human + AI code, and build the systems that protect millions in payments at a fast-scaling SaaS leader.
About Eftsure
Eftsure is a fast-scaling SaaS Fraud Technology platform that protects the B2B payments of Australian businesses by providing real-time vendor (supplier) verification and real-time payment protection. In a world of explosive and evolving cybercrime and payment fraud, we ensure our customers never pay the wrong people!
Our vision is to be the Security Standard for B2B payments with continual platform evolution and international expansion. Our mission is to support the Australian business community to transact securely. We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our growing team.
Role Summary
You'll define, build, and govern quality across Eftsure's technology organisation as we transition to AI-led software development. This is an engineering leadership role with a quality mandate - not traditional QA management.
You'll own the governance framework, the CI/CD quality gates, and the standards by which both human-written and AI-generated code are validated. You'll lead a distributed team across Sydney, Cape Town, and Lyon, and report directly to the CTO, peer-level with our other Directors of Engineering. That reporting line is very deliberate, quality has equal input into how we build with the independence to push back when it needs to.
Responsibilities
· Set the standards for how AI-generated code and tests are reviewed and validated. Our engineers use AI tooling every day; nobody in the industry has clearly worked out what this looks like yet, and we want you to be a part of doing so for Eftsure.
· Design and run the quality gates in our CI/CD pipelines. You lay down the rules for deciding what's good enough to reach production, whether it was written by an engineer or generated by AI.
· Move the function from running tests to assessing risk, focusing the team's effort on where the real exposure is and impact is greatest, not just where the test coverage is easy.
· Lead a team of Quality Engineers across Sydney, Cape Town and Lyon, and help them grow from running automated tests into doing quality analysis and validating AI output.
· Decide on our next evolution of measuring and reporting quality, production incidents, MTTR, coverage that actually matters.
· Recommend what the team should look like for the next phase. You won't inherit anyone else's plan, rather, an incredible bunch of dedicated and skilled people to work with.
What you need to be successful
· Engineering-first background, you came up through software engineering and moved into quality by choice. You can read code and hold your own with senior engineers.
· Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Copilot, OpenCode, or similar) and a clear view of their quality implications.
· You understand testing and quality are different things. Testing verifies code does what it's told; quality ensures software does what the user expects.
· Comfortable being the person who slows things down when they need slowing down.
· A clear, direct communicator who can translate quality risk into business language.
· Experience leading teams across multiple products.
Experience & Qualifications
· 10+ years in software engineering, with at least 2 in quality engineering, quality architecture, or a senior role with significant quality ownership.
· Demonstrated understanding of working with or governing AI-assisted development workflows.
· Experience designing CI/CD quality gates and automated testing frameworks.
· A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is an advantage, but a track record takes precedence.
